Mahamaya Organic Nursery
Fruits & Veggies
The nursery produces seedlings and grafts of various fruit and vegetable plants. These include mango, coconut and cashew.
Besides the nursery, we grow a variety of fruit trees on the farm. These include mango (various varieties), coconut, jackfruit, cashew, chickoo, banana, papaya, jamun, amla, kokum, star fruit, pepper, beetel nut, cocoa, mulberry, goose berry, guava, sweet potato, breadfruit, avocado, narangi, and soursop.

Nature is endowed with benefits that can heal, support and enhance the quality of life on the planet. At Mahamaya, we grow a number of fruit-bearing trees. Here are some our our very special produce.
Narangi
At Mahamaya, we grow narangi (Chinese Orange), a one-of-a-kind in Goa. Narangi is a citrus fruit; it is orange in color yet smaller than an orange. The fruit is a good low-calorie addition to your diet as it is a source of a variety of nutrients, including potassium, thiamin and folate.
Indian Gooseberry (Amla)
Amla is an excellent source of Vitamin C, hence it helps boost immunity, metabolism and prevents viral and bacterial ailments, including cold and cough. It comes with a range of polyphenols and so protects cells against free radical damage and provides antioxidant protection. Regular intake of amla not only leads to a healthy and glowing skin but also improves eye sight, boosts the immune system, and regulates blood sugar and lipids and improves condition of skin and hair.
Avocado
A tree with probable origin in south-central Mexico, the Avocado fruits are a great source of vitamins C, E, K, and B-6, as well as riboflavin, niacin, folate, pantothenic acid, magnesium, and potassium. They also provide lutein, beta-carotene, and omega-3 fatty acids. Its good for the heart and has anti-inflammatory properties as well as regulates blood pressure. The fruit is also good for vision and helps prevent conditions like osteoporosis.
Soursop
Soursop is typically eaten raw by cutting the fruit in half and scooping out the flesh. Soursop is low in calories but high in fiber and vitamin C. It is high in Antioxidants, can help fight bacteria, could reduce inflammation and also helps stabilise blood sugar levels.
Starfruit
is a sweet and sour fruit that has the shape of a five-point star. It is an extremely low-calorie fruit that is rich in dietary fibre, vitamin A, B and C along with minerals like zinc, phosphorus, magnesium, sodium, iron and potassium among others. High amounts of polyphenols make it an effective anti inflammatory food.
Kokum
Kokum is has a sweet, tangy taste. It is extensively used as a flavouring agent in Konkan curries. Kokum juice is a popular drink known locally as Sol Kadhi and forms an essential part at the end of a meal.
The Kokum peel is rich in nutrients including anthocyanins, garcinol, and hydroxycitric acid which supresses appetite and thus aids in weight loss.
Kokum is useful for treatment of piles, dysentery, tumours, pains and heart complaints. It also has shown anti-carcinogenic properties. and studies indicate that garcinol, which is found in kokum has the potential to supress degenerative diseases like dementia.
JACKFRUIT
Jackfruit is low in calories, naturally fat-free and sodium-free, provides a good amount of vitamins A and C. It also contains potassium that helps lower blood pressure. Jackfruit is rich in fiber, which means it can help you feel satisfied on fewer calories.
BREADFRUIT
Sweet potatoes
Sweet potatoes are a rich source of fibre which are shown to promote a healthy digestive system. They also contain an array of vitamins and minerals including iron, calcium, selenium, and they’re a good source of most of our B vitamins and vitamin C. They are high in an antioxidant known as beta-carotene. Moderate consumption of sweet potato and its leaves leaves may improve blood sugar regulation in type 2 diabetes.
COCONUTS
Coconuts are especially high in manganese, which is essential for bone health and the metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins, and cholesterol ( 8 ). They’re also rich in copper and iron, which help form red blood cells, as well as selenium, an important antioxidant that protects your cells. It is high in calories and saturated fat, so you should eat it in moderation.
Farm eggs
Eggs are rich sources of selenium, vitamin D, B6, B12 and minerals such as zinc, iron and copper. They are a source of fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K. Eggs consistently raise HDL (the “good”) cholesterol.
Cashews
Cashews can lower your risk for cardiovascular disease. They also contain vitamins and minerals such as potassium, vitamins E and B-6, and folic acid which help to fight heart disease. Cashews contain high levels of lutein and zeaxanthin, which act as antioxidants and can help protect the eyes. Cashews also contain the “good” fat, which is believed to help prevent heart disease and reduce the risk of stroke.
