DAIRY FARM

A modern dairy farm was set up in 2014, with Jersey and Holstein-Friesian cows that provide milk daily to Goa Dairy. The cows are fed with fodder grass grown on the farm.

The cow is integral to organic farming in India, providing gobar that’s a manure in itself and an accelerator for composting and gomutra that contains a precursor of plant growth hormones and is traditionally used for both, promotion of rooting in stem cuttings and for increase in size of fruits. Gomutra is also used in insect management.

Jersey & Holstein–Friesian cows

These are the world's highest-production dairy animals

Mechanised Milking technology

Our dairy is equipped with mechanised tech for milking.

100% Organic Feeding of cows

We grow fodder grass on our farm that feeds our cows.

BREEDS

The farm has two distinct sections. A modern mechanised dairy with Jersey and Holstein-Fresians and a traditional dairy with local breds including the Gir and Shwet Kapila.

Jersey is a British breed of small dairy cattle from Jersey. The milk from Jersey cattle are high in butterfat (4.84%) and protein (3.95%).

Holstein Friesians are a breed of cows that originated in Holand. They are the world’s highest-production dairy animals, averaging 22,530 pounds of milk per year. Butterfat content in milk produced by HF cows is around 3.7% and 3.1% protein.

BIO GAS

At Mahamaya, we are conscious of the environment. Besides feeding the cows at our dairy with cattle fodder grown on our farm, the refuse is used to produce bio gas that meets some of the farm’s energy needs.

Methane produced on farms is a major source of harmful gases produced that deplete the ozone in the atmosphere.

Biogas is a type of biofuel that is naturally produced from the decomposition of organic waste. When organic matter, such as food scraps and animal waste, break down in an anaerobic environment (an environment absent of oxygen) they release a blend of gases, primarily methane and carbon dioxide.

Instead of releasing these toxic gases to the atmosphere, biogas systems process waste channeling the biogas so that the energy can be productively used.
